Science
It is hoped that in the time your child spends at Huntcliff School they will experience the awe and wonder that is science. The department is made up of a team of excellent teachers who through their lessons will hopefully inspire your child to study science post-16.

Key stage 3: In years 7, 8 and 9 students are taught a range of Biology, Chemistry and Physics units. The topics covered include Cells, Microbes, Chemical Reactions, Environmental Chemistry, Electricity and Magnetism.
We also offer a year 7 Science Club for our gifted scientists.
Key stage 4: We offer a choice of 2 courses at GCSE
GCSE Triple Science - Appropriate for students who intend to study science at A' Level and beyond. Selection for this option will be based upon previous attainment. It will cover the three sciences -Biology, Chemistry and Physics in greater detail. This course leads to 3 GCSEs awarded at the end of year 11.
GCSE Additional Applied Science - Appropriate for those students who may wish to progress to a more vocational, work- related course post - 16. Students can progress to take an A-level in Applied Science. This course leads to 2 GCSEs awarded at the end of year 11.
For both courses there are examinations in both January and June of both year 10 and year 11.
Some of the total marks for the course are awarded for coursework. For the Triple Award course each GCSE has a coursework component worth 33%. For the Additional Applied course the coursework counts for 50% of the final course grade.
