Performing Arts - Music
Mr Harvey, our Music teacher, has a strong belief in the benefits of learning and instrument. The take-up of an instrument/voice is encouraged at all years and emphasises practical culture that we foster throughout the school.
Curriculum
The series of units are designed to develop pupils' understanding of the way in which music is constructed, produced and influenced by time and place in the co text of a particular genre/style.
Units of work include Song writing, Latin American music, Egyptian music, Folk, Medieval, Impressionism, Reggae, and improvisation within the style of Indian music, African music and Blues. Jazz improvisation includes work on melodic development, modal music and seat singing.
Other units of work include Night music, Film music, Chords in jazz, Rhythms of Eastern Europe, Bach's Toccata and Figue in D Minor, Minimalism and Polyrhythm, Music for Special Occasions and Arrangements in Music.
