Performing Arts - Drama

In Drama, we have tried very hard to introduce new material which will grab your imagination and some of the issues will hopefully make you think about being a confident and caring member of society.

Curriculum

Year 8: Introduction to Drama. Term 1 focuses on Drama games and conventions: 'The Haunted Lift' - focuses on performance poetry, 'A New Christmas Carol' - script acting; Terms 2 and 3 look at 'Stone Cold' - doing role play and focussing on homeless issues; Term 3 includes 'Roses of Eyam' - a historical play looking at the plague, Black Death.

Year 9: Term 1 looks at Shakespeare where students focus on a Shakespearean play initially linked to their English SAT set text; Terms 1 and 2 focuses on physical theatre, looking at 'Thriller'; Terms 2 and 3 look at 'Noughts and Crosses' - issues linked to racial tension; Term 3 includes a collection of short plays focussing on different genres.

GCSE

Year 10: Term 1 introduces the specification, concentrating on the first 2 areas of study (Character & Context and Genre & Style); Term 2 is an introduction to coursework ('Blood Brothers') and includes a development of areas of study 2 and 3, including exam work; Term 3 is a continuation of coursework 1 and an introduction of coursework 2.

Year 11: Ensuring coursework 2 has been completed satisfactorily including recording etc; Exam preparation including areas of study 4, 5 and 6; Year 11 mock and portfolio work; evaluation of exam and preparation of Year 11 GCSE.
