It has been good to have the opportunity to build up more links with the Junior School this year. Miss Mohon has worked closely with Mrs Schofield (a Year 6 teacher at Saltburn Primary) to develop resources which link History in Year 6 and Year 7 as part of an EAZ project. This extends the project already completed to link literacy work in Year 6 and Year 7 on the basis of a novel.
The resources are based around a book by Michael Morpurgo called Why the Whales Came.
The advantage is that students will face familiar material when they come up into Year 7, and Secondary teachers are aware of just what foundational History skills have been developed in Junior School . As students will bring the work they have completed so far to Huntcliff in September, they will be able to have a specific project book for their Introduction to History Skills module, with part completed in Year 6 and part in Year 7.
Miss Mohon has recently visited the Junior School to talk to Year 6 students and their teachers.
