HISTORY, MATHS, TECHNOLOGY AND ART On 11th July, 2006 Year 8 students took part in History Department Activities linked to our Specialist Status Launch Day. They were considering how the History of Saltburn could best be represented in our new learning campus - and this involved working with a number of different Departments. |

HISTORY AND ENGLISH As part of a transition project with the Junior School Year 6/7 students during 2006 will study the book 'Why the Whales Came'. The book has literacy and History links, and both of these have been developed at the Junior School and will be picked up when Year 7 arrive in September. |

HISTORY AND ART In a continuation of the work with Saltburn Forward on the Cliff Lift Project students have been drawing fossils, and making fossils out of clay as part of workshops linked to a fossil garden. The students have worked with artist Andrew McKeown on the project, which is part of plans to redevelop the Cliff Lift area. |

HISTORY AND ART A display of Year 7 student work on the Romans took place at Kirkleatham Museum in January 2005 and an event was held to demonstrate the work students have done in History during the Autumn Term. The Art Department supported the project by helping students paint the backdrops to the wall display. |

HISTORY AND GEOGRAPHY Year 8 students have taken part in a community project with Saltburn Forward to redesign the area at the top of the Cliff Lifts. The aim of this project is to produce interpretative boards to help visitors to Saltburn to understand about its history. |

HISTORY AND ENGLISH During English lessons Year 7 students have studied a book called 'Kensuke's Kingdom' by Michael Morpurgo. The story refers to the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. Some students have researched the dropping of the atomic bomb (with the support of the History Department) and have produced newspaper articles about this event. |

HISTORY AND ICT The History Department are taking the opportunity to integrate the use of ICT into History wherever this is seen to support the learning of students. This includes utilising the microlabs when available, as well as taking advantage of the newly fitted data projectors in History classrooms (and an interactive whiteboard). A website has been designed specifically to support revision in GCSE History (www.HistorySupport.net) as well as a range of resources on the subject section of the School website. |

11.1 | HISTORY AND MFL In February, 2005 there was a joint History and MFL trip to Germany for GCSE students. The History Department in liason with the MFL Department planned a trip to Berlin for GCSE students to take place during February Half Term. As well as improving their knowledge of the German language students had the opportunity to visit a Concentration Camp, the Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie and other places relevant to the GCSE History Course. |
