Huntcliff School Geography Lead Department Short (a little bit about us)

The Way Forward

After our initial meeting we set out our vision for our LEAD department initiative:

1. Develop resources for use in schools

2. Develop teaching skills shared between schools

3. Quality of delivery that establishes common progress and practice across schools where appropriate

4. Support between schools

5. Measure what we are doing and examine the criteria used

6. Link to the other Lead Department areas (2 way exchange)

How we aimed to achieve our vision

1. Fieldwork – sharing ideas, resources, knowledge and know-how through running a fieldwork ‘workshop’ at home and abroad.

2. Residential Weekends

3. Regular Group meeting

4. Newsletter

5. Establish website links to the GA

6. Develop a framework for county shared geography website – can be tailored to suit dept needs

7. Shared best practice by visiting schools

8. Production of resources (eg. OHT, Powerpoint, Worksheets etc.)

Note: From previous experience in other Lead schools/departments it has been found that a few large events are of greater benefit than many single, smaller schemes and this will form the basis of the years program.
