ACCREDITATION
RPE (EDEXCEL GCSE), PE (See below)
Core Physical Education (PE)
All students will now take an accredited course during their core PE lesson. All students are entitled to be entered for external accreditation. However this will depend upon their attendance and satisfactory completion of the course. Students will need to indicate a
1st and 2nd choice of course on all of their options forms
Students will study these courses for the full two years and there won’t be the opportunity to swap courses once a decision has been made.
Religion, Philosophy and Ethics (RPE)
Religious Studies is a compulsory subject for students in Key Stage 3 and 4. It is not about making you ‘religious’, it is about enabling you to think for yourself about religious and moral issues. It is about you, your life and the issues you will face when you leave school and go into the multi-ethnic, multi-faith society which is the UK.
• Why some people believe in God and some people don’t.
• Why some people believe in life after death and some people don’t.
• Different attitudes towards issues such as abortion, euthanasia, sex, marriage, divorce, homosexuality, contraception and family life.
• Religion and community cohesion in terms of women’s rights, ethnic rights and the problems and benefits of living in a multi-faith society.
You will be assessed by a 1 ½ hour examination in Year 10. There is no coursework or in class assessment. All students are entitled to be entered for this exam. However this will depend upon their attendance and satisfactory completion of the course.

Core ICT (Functional Skills)
All students in Key Stage 4 are given 1 lesson a week in ICT where they will work towards achieving the Functional Skills level 2 qualification. Functional skills ICT is a qualification that will equip students with the basic practical computer skills required in everyday life, education and the workplace. The Level 2 qualification is assessed through a 2 hour computer based exam, worth the equivalent of half a GCSE or 23 attainment points.
